Medicaid and Health Choice Categories
There are a number of instances where an individual or family may qualify for North Carolina Medicaid or Health Choice. Below is a brief description of each category and a link to more information. Additional information can be found at the NC Division of Medical Assistance website.
Medicaid for Aged, Blind & Disabled
If you are over the age of 65, blind or disabled you may qualify for assistance. Even if your monthly resources exceed the limits for general qualification you may qualify if you have large medical expenses.
Medicaid for Health Coverage for Workers with Disabilities (HCWD)
Individuals who are disable and can still work may qualify for medicaid coverage. The state provides assistance to qualified individuals who are 16 through 64 and meet certain financial qualifications.
Medicaid for Infants, Children, & Families
There are several categories where infants, children and families may qualify for Medicaid. This section also includes eligibility criteria for pregnant women who need prenatal care, delivery and postpartum care.
Medicaid for Long-Term Care
In the event that an individual cannot take care of themselves, Medicaid may help pay for long-term care for them. Long-term care includes nursing homes and intermediate care facilities where individuals can reside under a supervised setting.
Medicaid for Medicare Recipients
Persons with Medicare and limited incomes may qualify for additional Medicaid coverage through the Medicare-Aid program. Medicaid’s Medicare-Aid recipients will receive either comprehensive, limited or limited with capped enrollment coverage.
Health Choice for Children
Children who are between the ages of 6 through 18 and are ineligible for Medicaid, Medicare or another government-sponsored healthcare program may qualify for Health Choice. Health choice is a comprehensive health insurance plan targeted at families that meet certain annual income limits.
